El hardware de HDTHUNDER es una solución altamente potenciada para la edición de múltiples formatos, que soporta la edición basada en SDI y los flujos de trabajo sin cinta, además de tener la habilidad de previsualizar los proyectos en tiempo real utilizando monitores HDMI económicos. Junto con la placa que está basada en la tecnología PCI Express y que posee entradas y salidas HD-SDI y salida de video con audio de alta calidad embebido por HDMI para previsualización en tiempo real, se incluye el software de edición no lineal Edius.  Junto con las características de HDTHUNDER están, la entrada y salida de timecode para una edición precisa desde los registros de campos, soporte de entrada de referencia para blackburst y sincronismo de tres niveles, control de máquinas para la ingesta de VTRs externas, y un software de emulación opcional de VTRs que le permite controlar un editor de Edius como si fuera una VTR para reproducir directamente desde la estación de trabajo.
HDTHUNDER también lo potencia con una salida de video a resolución completa y cons- tantemente sincronizada de efectos y contenidos directamente desde la línea de tiempo
de Edius. Este puede manejar cualquier mezcla de contenidos de video (sean SD o HD), ilimitadas capas de video, audio, títulos y gráficos; y cualquier combinación de efectos en tiempo real. Además ofrece salida de video HD y SD de máxima calidad a resolución completa y en tiempo real.

Minimum System Requirements
HDTHUNDER is capable of editing both SD and HD content in real time, however the system requirements for real-time HD editing are significantly higher than for SD editing. The requirements shown here are for real-time HD editing.
 

• Intel or AMD CPU with a 3 GHz processor speed or faster (multiple CPUs and/or multi-core CPUs are recommended - minimum SSE2 instruction set required)
• 1 GB RAM (2 GB or more recommended)
• One free PCI Express x4 slot
• 800 MB or more space required for software installation
• Drive with ATA100/7,200 rpm or faster capable of sustaining at least 20 MB/s data transfer
  • Available disk space should be twice the size of the file to be edited
  • A RAID stripe set of two or more drives is required for multiple HD stream output
• A graphics card with at least 256 MB of graphics memory (512 MB recommended) with support for Direct3D 9.0c or later, and PixelShader Model 3.0 or later is required (PixelShader Model 4.0 or later recommended)
